from$680for two sharing, 3 nights, $340 per person

Leakey sits farther up the river than the busier summer stretch around Concan, where the canyon closes in and the crowds thin out. Prices start from $340 per person with two sharing, or from $680 for two, and the exact figure is settled in writing for your dates.

A couples cabin in the narrow upper Frio canyon

You sleep in a cabin arranged for two people, one of the units a cabin resort on the upper Frio runs itself. The resort keeps its own front desk, registers you there when you arrive, and collects the hotel tax on its own account.

Around the resort lies the canyon country of the upper river, with hills close on both sides. Three nights give you time to settle in, spend a day near the water, and leave without rushing the drive home.

from$680for two sharing, 3 nights, $340 per person

The figure comes from the resort's published rate of $210 a night for a cabin two can share, times 3 nights, plus $50 we count for cleaning and resort charges the resort has not yet published, rounded up to from $680 for two, or from $340 per person. Texas state hotel tax and any local hotel tax sit outside it and are added by the resort. Because the fees are our own estimate, the final figure is confirmed only in your written quote. The resort pays us a commission after your three nights, so the planning and the quote are free to you.

Sharing the Concan gauge downstream

Leakey and Concan read from one shared gauge, the Frio River at Concan, so they carry the same number in our catalog. Across 1996 to 2025, the median of May monthly flow there was 56.5 cubic feet per second (cfs) and the median for August was 35.1 cfs.

That works out to August keeping about 62% of May's water, which places this river in the spring-fed group, right at the lower edge of it. Springs keep the Frio running through summer, but a narrow upper river carries less volume than the larger streams closer to Austin, and rain still moves it up and down.

Fuller spring water, thinner late summer

We plan this stay for arrivals from April to October. Spring usually brings the fuller river, as May runs higher than August on this gauge; by late summer the Frio is lower, though springs keep it moving.

Fall 2026 has been short on rain, and several Hill Country rivers are running far under their usual October level. Water here depends on rain, so we make no promise about depth, swimming or floating. Your written quote describes the river as it stands that week.

Arrival, departure and a reply to our email

Each line of the quote matters: the cabin resort, the exact unit, your arrival and departure dates, the nightly figure for those dates with Texas hotel tax shown on its own line, and the terms the resort sets for canceling. Nothing is held until you answer yes in writing, and a reply to our email is enough.

The resort has not published its cleaning and resort charges, so we count them at $50 until it states them in writing. Its nightly rate can also differ by date. Either can move the figure, and the quote shows the real numbers before you decide. The seven steps from request to check-in lay out the rest.

167 miles into the Frio canyon

From our office in west Austin the trip runs about 167 miles, roughly 3 hours 10 minutes on the usual roads with no traffic. It heads west through the Hill Country and ends in the Frio canyon, one of the two longest drives among our stays. You drive your own car there and back, and the Concan cabin downstream makes an easy comparison if you want the same river with a busier summer scene.

Ask about three nights in the Frio canyon

Tell us the month you would like to arrive, how many are coming and what you want from the river, and we will check this cabin with the resort. A request can go in at any hour through the request page without charge, and it holds no cabin by itself; our written answer follows on the schedule printed below.
