How to reserve a river cabin through a travel agent, step by step

Planning a Hill Country weekend by the water is easier when one person handles the asking. Here is how you reserve a river cabin through a travel agent at our Austin office: you tell us the river and the month, we check the nights with the lodge, inn or cabin resort, and you get one written answer before anything is held. The lodge takes your payment and keeps your reservation in its own system; we pass your yes along and stay on hand until you arrive.

Seven stages between our inbox and your check-in

  1. Form or a call

The form takes a request at any hour. On a phone day, Tuesday to Saturday, you can call instead. A request costs nothing and holds no nights.

  2. We check the nights

We contact the lodge, inn or cabin resort you picked and ask whether your dates are open.

  3. Quote arrives by email

Our email names the lodging business, your nights, the price for those dates with tax listed apart, and the lodge's cancellation terms.

  4. A one-line reply accepts it

Reply to that email to accept. A short line is enough.

  5. Nights held in your name

We ask the lodge to hold the nights for you, and the lodge sends you its own confirmation.

  6. Pay the lodge directly

You settle the stay with the lodging business on the schedule it sets.

  7. Drive out and check in

Take your own car to the river and give your name at the lodge's front desk.

What the written quote spells out before you say yes

Every quote is written for real dates, so its figures replace the from prices in the catalog. It names the lodging business, the unit two can share, your nights, and the from figure built on the lodge's published nightly rate plus any charge the lodge makes mandatory. Texas state hotel tax of 6% and any local hotel tax sit on their own line, because the lodge adds them at checkout.

The quote also copies out the lodge's own cancellation and change terms. We add a note on the river as it runs that week: this fall has been dry, and water depends on rain, so we report what the gauge shows. Where we have estimated the lodge's own charges, as at Concan and Leakey, the quote carries the amount the lodge confirms in writing.

Your part between the request and the drive

Sending the form leaves you free to change your mind. Nothing is held until you answer our email with a yes, and the only money you hand over goes to the lodging business itself. The lodge pays our office a commission after your stay, which is how the planning is covered.

Once the nights are held, keep the lodge's confirmation and read its terms. If plans shift, contact us on a phone day and we pass the change to the lodge that day or the next phone day. Refunds come from the lodge under its own terms; if weather or low water makes you want new dates, we ask, and the lodge decides.

  • Choose a river and a month, or ask us to help you choose
  • Answer the written quote by email
  • Pay the lodge on its own schedule
  • Bring linens where the lodge asks, as the Junction cabin resort does

Arrival day at the lodge, inn or cabin resort

You drive from Austin in your own car, from under an hour to Wimberley up to a little over three hours to Concan or Leakey. At the front desk the lodge registers you as its guest, takes any balance due under its terms and adds the hotel tax.

Meals, groceries, tubes, boats and park entry are arranged locally with outfitters and parks near the river. If something about the reservation looks different from your quote, call us on a phone day and we take it up with the lodge. To start, send a note through the request form or browse the eleven riverside stays first.
